Kids Fairy Costumes For Halloween to Light Up Halloween Night!

By Peggy Huiseghems

If you often hear the flutter of tiny wings at your place it's probably because you have a resident Fairy. Halloween is just around the corner so there's no better time to get her a new Fairy costume. With all the zombies, ghosts and other ghoulish creatures about it's easy to forget the prettier side of magic.

Naturally, you won't want your Fairy to be cowering under a mushroom because of a wardrobe crisis. It's her big night. She needs to bottle up the fairy dust, dust off her wings, and start practicing with her wand. Let her imagine being a real fairy in one of the cute Fairy Halloween costumes for kids available this year.

The Rainbow Ballerina Toddler or Child Costume is a little Fairy's dream outfit. She will literally glow in the dark with the fibre optic twinkle lights that are embedded in her skirt. Her white dress has pastel colored rainbow stripes on her skirt and puffy sleeves. She will be creating magic where ever she goes and her very own light show from her Fairy powers.

The Fairy who fancies living at the bottom of a garden might prefer to flutter around on Halloween in the Pink Butterfly Fairy Child Costume. With a feminine pink satin dress, elegant ruffled skirt and green petals around the waistline, she won't look at all out of place amongst the flowers. The angelic pink wings have a magic all of their own.

They say you can only see Fairies if you believe and you won't have any problem believing when you see your little one in the Tink and The Lost Treasures Deluxe Child Costume. The lovely green dress has a Tinker Bell cameo, a tulip skirt with layers of purple, yellow and green - and of course, removable purple wings. It can get a little chilly when flying so there's a little green cape to help keep her warm.

Slightly older Fairies can be a little rebellious as they decide what type of Fairy they'd eventually like to be. For the tween who's exploring her darker side this year, the Skulls and Stars Tween Costume will be a match. This is one Fairy even the witches of the night won't want to mess with. The black bodice and skirt is sprinkled with stars but the black wings are dotted with skulls. Gray and black striped leggings, a pink studded belt and a pink choker top off the look.

There'll be no shortage of ghosts, ghouls and zombies roaming the streets this Halloween. Why not contribute a little positive magic to the night? Someone has to keep evil in check and who better to balance things out than a good Fairy or two. And let's face it, the world could do with a little more good magic.

Don't let the un-dead ruin your Halloween, after all they smell bad and are prone to dropping body parts all over your front lawn. If your child prefers a sweet smelling Halloween with a touch of magic, there are just two things you'll need - a girl Fairy Halloween costume and a little belief in magic. - 31376

Education: The Dreaded SATS - A Child's and Parent's Nightmare!

By Dr. Noel Swanson

It's time again for the dreaded and stress inducing SATS. Teachers and students across the UK are stressing. The principal or head teacher wants to look good on the national league tables. The teachers want everyone to know that they're the best. As for the students, they've heard so much about these tests that they're terrified of failing, or at least not doing their best.

Some children, of course, love tests and exams. But most would be quite happy to do without them, and some get so stressed by them that it can affect all areas of their lives - and their parents too! So, if you child is one of these, what can you do to help?

Standardized Achievement Tests (SATS) were created to assess schools. The British government wanted to find out how well children are doing as a whole, and how well each school is performing. They start by testing a child at age 7 to establish a baseline score. They are tested again when they are 11. The difference in scores is known as the "value added", and refers to how much the child has learned in four years. The goal is to raise the education level among eleven year olds. The SATS allow the government to measure how well they're doing.

So how is this relevant to your child? It isn't! The SATS have almost no relevance to an individual child. The secondary school will not use the SATS scores in planning their teaching - they will do their own assessment of each child. Besides, the scores on the SATS, called levels, are so broad that they do not really tell you how well your child is doing. The average eleven year old is supposed to score at level 4. But if your child is at level 4 you still have no idea if your child is the high end or low end of average. If your child scores at a lower or higher level, that too is unlikely to be news to you. Even without the SATS you would almost certainly have known if your child is ahead or behind the rest of the class - and so should the teacher. So your child's individual SAT scores will not affect his or her education in any way.

How do you handle the situation if your child is stressed out about the SATS? First, explain that it's the school being tested, and not her. Tell her that her levels won't matter. Tell her to do the best she can, but don't force her to study or practice. She will have enough tests in her life and doesn't need to stress out about these.

If your reassurance doesn't t help, then talk to her teacher. Find out how he handles explaining the SATS to his students. Let him know that you have concerns about your child, and would like to work out a plan of mutual support.

Any time that you are worried about how your child is performing in school, always talk to the instructor or even the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) or head teacher. There is no point in worrying without taking steps to allay your fears. - 31376

Soft Toys - A Child's Most Valued Memory

By Dan Ellenwood

I am sure that there were various times during your childhood that you thought the world had fallen down around you - this is a feeling that all of us have experienced. It could have been something simple like falling out with a friend - something that at a young age always feels like the end of the world, even if it is forgotten about 24 hours later - or it could have been something more serious than that.

At this time it was commonplace for one of our parents to hand us our most beloved and trusted cuddly toy. Soft toys are as much a part of childhood as training wheels on a bike or mittens tied to coat sleeves. Quite simply, they are something all children remember as they grow older.

There is no doubt whatsoever that the soft toy is something that leaves an imprint for any child, due to its familiarity and comforting capabilities. They may be inanimate and wordless in reality, but for a child their presence is something overwhelmingly positive and reassuring.

Children have plenty of toys to choose from, many of which are more 'cool' than a soft toy, but none of the others available offer much in the way of personality and friendliness. Due to their softness and their floppy arms they are far more huggable than any other toy, and they act in much the same way as a comfort blanket for many children. In fact, look at the most favored childhood toy of anyone now grown up and you are likely to see it a little threadbare due to its use as a comforter.

One of the most wonderful things about a cuddly toy is that it is safe enough for a child to have in bed with them as they try to sleep. Having a favorite toy to cuddle and talk to as we wait for sleep to come along is something that, as a child, we all value.

That they have remained cherished through out the generations, gives little room for argument against soft toys being the number one toy. Something classic about the way they look and feel just makes them ideal for young children, and few among us would fail to admit that we had a faithful cuddly friend as a youngster who got us through some tough times. - 31376

Be An Effective and Efficient Note-taker

By Robbi Hess

For both high school and university students, knowing how to take notes is as important as knowing which notes to take. Unless you know shorthand or carry around your handheld recorder, you will need to make effective use of your classroom time and become an effective note-taker.

1. Do pre-class prep time. Read ahead on what the professor will be going over. If you skim your textbooks you'll have an idea what the professor will be covering and you can get a feel for the topic. If there's a concept you don't understand make a note of it and ask about it in class.

2. Pick up a highlighter to mark the points the professor covers. You might not have to give yourself writer's cramp if you have access to a highlighter. But if you're a purist who doesn't want to write in a text book, carry sticky notes and post them next to the sections covered in class.

3. Listening is as important as note taking. If you zone out you won't know what important points your instructor is discussing. Also, pay attention to your fellow students - they may raise points you had questions on.

4. Pay attention to lecture content. Knowing what to write down and what to ignore can be difficult to determine but keep this in mind: If the instructor puts it in the board or in an presentation, you likely need to know it. Points that are repeated, should be written down - they may come up in a test later.

5. While every individual has his or her own note taking style here are a couple of things to consider. Use a new page for each day's lecture. Leave empty spaces between notes for review and additional topics as they arise. Paraphrase. Abbreviate but make certain you will be able to decipher it later.

Remember, you can't write down everything your professor says, and rest assured - you won't need to. Just pay attention, jot salient points and review your notes after class to make certain you understand what you've scribbled down. - 31376

How To Choose The Right Xbox 360 Repair Facility

By Christian Miller

Once you realize your Xbox is out of commission, you quickly consider your repair options. You can ship it off to Microsoft for repairs, but you'll pay as much as $150 + shipping costs if your 3-year RROD warranty has expired. You'll also wait a good six weeks before getting your precious Xbox 360 back, which is most likely out of the question for a true Xbox gamer. So what next? Well, go with what you know. You want the repair done fast, and you don't want to pay and arm and a leg for it.

The first thing you will need to do when your Xbox 360 dies is seek out a local game system repair shop. Thing is, everyone and their brother claims to have what it takes to fix your game console, no matter if they are qualified to do so or not. To help you find a reliable Xbox 360 repair service, make sure you keep the following points in mind.

Locating a trustworthy and reliable Xbox 360 repair shop needs to be your main concern. It does you no good to choose a cheap repair deal only to have your Xbox returned to you missing pieces or in poor working order. Remember, you want it done affordably, but you need for it to be done right. Choose incorrectly and you'll have wasted both time and money.

Finding a good repair shop isn't impossible, it just takes some planning. Check out high traffic and trusted websites and discussion boards that talk about Xbox repair, or consult your local Google or Yahoo directories to see whether there is a reputable repair facility nearby. Don't forget as you interview repair shops to ask how long each one has been in the business. Newer locations can pose additional risk over shops that have been doing repairs for some length of time.

The rubber will meet the road for you when you determine the price you're willing to pay to have your Xbox 360 repaired. Remember, you're opting for a fast repair job that can get you back up and gaming fast. So, though you may pay less than the $150 Microsoft will charge you, you will probably still pay around or just under $100. Hey, convenience costs. Just ask around to see which shop costs what and select one that works for you.

Local Xbox 360 repair shops are a great option for people in need of speedy Xbox repairs. The main benefits of local repair shops are that they speed up the otherwise six week wait time Microsoft would force you to endure, and they often repair Xbox systems for less than Microsoft would charge. However, you really need focus on is the speed of your repair. Be sure to locate an Xbox repair shop that can fix and return your game unit to you promptly. Don't be afraid to ask different services how long it will take to fix your system, and push them for earlier time frames if they provide unacceptable turnaround times.

Another very important thing to consider is the customer service offered by your local Xbox 360 repair shop. If they are going to take a week to fix your Xbox, perhaps they have a "loaner Xbox" they can lend you while yours is being fixed. At minimum, you want your repair technician to promptly correct any mistakes that occur as a result of their repair. Local game system repair shops live and die by word of mouth advertising. If they want to survive, they're going to take good care of you and respond to your every need. - 31376
