Choosing a G Shock Wrist Watch

By Graham Lesnar

Casio, a brand of which was originally a calculator manufacturer decided against making an entry into the watch industry until 1974 with the release of Casitron, a watch which was able to display dates and time together. The dates automatically got updated irrespective of how long or short a month was, even during leap years, giving Casio a kick start into the watch making market!

In 1978 Casio released a wrist watch with an LCD screen, the first of its kind. The next watch had a digital and analog combination and was introduced in 1982. Further advancements introduced the G-shock in 1983, a shock resistant wrist watch. In 1984 a hand written wrist watch databank was released. In 1985, the FS-10 digital watch made an entry into the watch world. Further along, aiming to capture the adolescent market, the Sting analog watch was introduced in 1988. In 1989, a digital watch which also forecasted weather changes with the help sensors built-in it the BM-100WJ was released. A digital wrist watch with a compass CPW-100 was debuted and in 1994 the Baby-G was born, a G-shock especially for women. The release of the first display on glass was seen in the twincept watch in the year 1995.

The color of G-shock changes every season. They are available in colors that range from a plain classic black to vibrant colors. The series of wrist watches sometimes have cool color combinations like purple and white, neon yellow and black and the like. The BG series for women has as many as 24 different styles. They are also available in trendy and sporty combinations like white and hot pink, red, hot red and pink. Two BGR series, seven MSG series and three BGA series are available too. For men, four watches in AW series, eight in DW series and 32 in G series are available. Five MTG series, one GLX style, two GWM series, nineteen GW series, and two GS styles make the complete collection. The resistance to water by the watches reached 10 bars. They watches can be dropped, struck using hammers, compressed, frozen and even immersed in water and still, they will function. They can survive 10 meter falls and no battery replacement is required for 10 years. The latest releases come with an added feature, a solar cell which recharges the battery automatically. The watches can also synchronize themselves with the American Standard Time as it continuously receives signals through radio control technology from Fort Collins in Colorado. They also have stopwatch and timer modes of operation. In some of the watches, thermometer and barometer features are present. There is even a moon - tide graph display in some of the watches.

The effort that was put up by Casio has brought it to the level it is in now. Their trial at many projects like calculators, watches, computers, cameras, printers, etc have all been successful to a large extent and they have developed their watch manufacturing industry to very large proportions. Their wristwatches are very popular and the G-Shock wristwatches are the most popular ones and have been so since their release for sports personnel. The founder of the company Tadao Kashio and his family regularly fund events related to sports and other research and development sectors for new business ideas. - 31376
