Why Do We Love Collecting Toy Fire Trucks

By Michelle Rudge

For many of us, collecting toy fire trucks is one of those novelties that just never wore off. We never seem to get sick of holding these small pieces of history (and for some of us, a small piece of our childhood) and as we get older, our desire for the big toys is never surpasses our passion for the small ones!

Not all toy fire truck collectors are born equal though! Some are motivated more on an emotional level, collecting toys that are from their childhood and signify a long gone era of quality and craftsmanship. Others may be motivated by collecting rare items that form part of a larger collection.

Many people will have a treasured old toy on display somewhere in their home. It may be in study, or up in the display cabinet or even in full view on the mantle piece. Toy fire trucks over the years have come in a huge array of designs but the one common thing about all these old toy fire trucks that we collect, is that they transport us back to a time in our lives when things were a lot less complicated and stressful than they are now.

When we were children, our toy fire trucks were subject to our imaginations... and these were fraught with daring adventures, dangerous rescues and heroic deeds. For many, going back to these times and re-living the imaginations of a child can be more attractive than our real lives. It's these toys that take us back to that time of life that was a lot simpler and much more imaginative.

There are different reasons that each collector will have for building a collection of toy fire trucks. There are, of course, those that collect for sentimental value. Spurred on by their passion for the quality and craftmanship shown with each piece they collect. And there are those that understand the potential financial gain when they find a piece that is of value, or could become more valuable with time. - 31376
