Tom's Shoes is best known for holding shoe drops in third world countries, but the last two years have also provided them with opportunities for shoe drops with in their own community; The USA. Opportunities that Tom's Shoes took full advantage of.
Blake Mycoskie started Tom's Shoes in 2006 after a trip to Argentina where he befriended native children who owned no shoes. He came up with the famous one-for-one Tom's Shoes motto in hopes that he could structure a company that could be successful both in charity and profit.
Soon Mycoskie realized that even though poverty in the United States didn't always mean no shoes there is still a great need for children to have shoes that fit and are not warn out. So after 2 years of shoe drops in other countries Tom's Shoes decided it was about time to have one on its own turf. They got to show the community what the one-for-one motto was really all about.
Tom's Shoe headed to New Orleans this year to along with 33 volunteers. They were all excited to have the opportunity to give away over 2,000 pairs of shoes to students in 5 schools in the surrounding New Orleans area.
Tom's shoes went beyond just providing the children with new proper fitting shoes; they decided to give those kids the opportunity to personalize those shoes. Tom's shoes set up tables and scattered markers so once the children had their shoes in had they could go make them there own. Many of the children expressed that customizing the Tom's Shoes was their favorite part of the day.
Blake Mycoskie has been able to help improve his own community as well as the communities in many other countries. You too can help the community using the one-for-one motto. - 31376
